Providing villages that don’t have electricity yet, with an off-grid solar power plant

Off-grid Africa is providing 300 villages in Senegal with solar electricity completely off-grid. In the future, they plan to help even more villages in Senegal and other countries in Africa.

How it all started

The founder, Mark Kragh, had connections in Senegal and heard of the potential to help these villages. In addition, there was a subsidy in Europe to provide remote villages with green electricity. He took his chance and went for it. He had to work with a team very hard for over a year to get the subsidy in the end, but they did it!

The local government in Senegal selects the villages. After, Mark and his team get in contact with the chief of each village to inform them about the possibilities. Once everybody is on board, they install the solar power plant in the village.

We visited a village in the province Kaffrine.

Future plans

Off-grid Africa is now working on new projects in Senegal as well as Morocco, Angola and maybe even more countries in Africa.
